The final concert of MYAC’s Chicago Jazz Workshop is the culminating event of the program, showcasing the talents and hard work of the participating young musicians. Held at the historic and picturesque MYAC Center in Fort Sheridan, this concert provides a platform for students to demonstrate the ensemble interaction, accompaniment, and improvisation skills they have developed during the workshop.
Participants are grouped into jazz combos of five to eight students, each having spent the duration of the workshop studying and practicing jazz standards. The concert features performances from each of these combos, highlighting their ability to control and manipulate the musical environment as they interpret and improvise on classic jazz pieces.
Open to all students entering 6th grade or above as of Fall 2024, the workshop includes both advanced high school musicians and beginners. This diverse mix of experience levels ensures a dynamic and rich musical experience for both the performers and the audience. The final concert not only celebrates the individual growth of each student but also emphasizes the collaborative spirit of jazz, making it a memorable event for all involved.
