Date: January 26, 2016
Time: 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM CST
Event Description:
Library favorite Betsey Means returns to portray Mary Henrietta Kingsley, a remarkable explorer and authority on Africa. In 1893, Ms. Kingsley set sail from England for Equatorial Africa with two objectives: to bring back fish specimens for the British Museum and to collect information on African religions. When she returned two years later, the articles she had published in the press had already made her famous and her readers were eager for more. Ms. Kingsley wrote her first book of 750 pages titled Travels in West Africa (1897). An instant success, the book was reprinted four times in its first year and followed by a second volume, West African Studies (1899).
