Date: October 5, 2019
Time: 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
Come and bask in the soulful sounds of talented singer and songwriter Toby Lightman on Saturday, October 5 as Gorton Community Center debuts its live music series—Gorton Center Live. From October through May, Gorton will feature unique music artists and you will enjoy some of the industry's greatest up-and-coming talents in Gorton's intimate setting. Lightman kicks off this series with her soulful voice and her own sophisticated and groovy vibe. Her debut album Little Things appeared on the Billboard Top 100 in its first week and gave way to comparisons to sultry songstress' like Lauryn Hill, Sheryl Crow, and Norah Jones. Darling to the normally harsh critics, Lightman received high praise from magazines like Rolling Stone, People, Billboard and others, which led to appearances on Letterman, Carson Daly, Conan, CBS Morning Show, and more. Her second record, Bird on a Wire (2006), helped lead Lightman to enormous success in the film and TV industry with the single “My Sweet Song” being featured in the movie PS I Love You, starring Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler. She began and has continued to tour extensively, both solo and with renowned artists such as Rob Thomas, Jewel, James Blunt, Gavin DeGraw, Train, Marc Cohn, and on one special evening opening for the legendary Prince, an artist that Lightman grew up idolizing. She is currently producing her new recordings entirely on her own, playing all of the instruments and mixing the tracks as well. “I am delighted that Gorton Center has been arranging a vibrant lineup of contemporary musicians to perform here in Lake Forest,” says Virginia Cochran, live music aficionado and Lake Forest resident. “It's really a gift to have someone like Toby Lightman, a nationally acclaimed singer and songwriter, at our very door this October. The energy these talented musicians bring is contagious and I hope anyone who hasn't put Gorton Center on their music radar gets inspired.” Lightman will perform in the John & Nancy Hughes Theater at Gorton Community Center. Advance tickets range from $20 to $25 and will be more at the door. Or, you may purchase a series package with a bonus free ticket to a premium show. Student discounts are also available with I.D.
