The LFCO takes a musical trip around the world with music from the North, South, East, and West. We begin in Eastern Europe, specifically Romania, with George Enescu’s Romanian Rhapsody No. 2. A solemn, lilting string tune evokes folk music which leads into a dancing carefree finale. From there we head north-east to Armenia, where MYAC Walgreens Concerto Competition winner William Lewis will present Alexander Arutunian’s fiery yet romantic Concerto for Trumpet. We then head to South America with Arturo Marquez’s Danzon No. 2. Featuring solo woodwinds, an army of percussion, this piece evokes a ballroom dance similar to the tango. We close the program with Aaron Copland’s depiction of the American West, Four Dance Episodes from “Rodeo.”
