Name: Talking Baseball with Ryne Sandburg, Bill Bartholomay & Alan Nero
Date: September 12, 2019
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM CDT
Event Description:
Baseball is America’s beloved national pastime. To serve our community, Gorton will celebrate this sport with a fantastic discussion among three well-known pros. Former Chicago Cubs player and National Baseball Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg, former Atlanta Braves owner Bill Bartholomay, and sports agent Alan Nero will share favorite stories from their long history with the game, talk about the current MLB pennant race and approaching playoffs and of course, talk about the Cubs! During the night other topics may be explored, such as how Major League Baseball can appeal to a younger audience, what legal sports betting will mean for the game, and the chances of international expansion to places such as Mexico and Europe. Our moderator will be David Sweet, who has served as a columnist for NBCSports.com, SportsBusiness Journal and The Wall Street Journal. He has also authored two books, “Three Seconds in Munich: The Controversial 1972 Olympic Basketball Final,” and “Lamar Hunt: The Gentle Giant who Revolutionized Professional Sports.” The event will take place in the intimate Stuart Room. A 60-minute discussion will be followed by a 20-minute session for audience questions and end with an opportunity to ask panelists questions in person. A cash bar featuring beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages will be available before the event and during the meet-and-greet after. Recommended for ages 12 and up.
