Name: Woodlands Academy to host girls’ STEM event
Date: December 1, 2018
Time: 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM CST
Event Description:
Girls in grades 6, 7 and 8 are invited to join in a Saturday morning of hands-on learning, fun and friendly competition at Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart’s Robotics & Engineering 101 workshop Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It’s the third annual event hosted by the all-girls high school in Lake Forest encouraging middle school girls to consider STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) courses in high school and then STEM careers later on. Participants will engage in activities including: • programming using Scratch, • constructing battery-operated cars • a boat building competition – with prizes. Studies showing that girls often lose interest in STEM during the middle school years are one of the reasons why Woodlands Academy invites area 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls to participate in its Robotics & Engineering 101 workshops. Participants at these events, offered free of charge, work alongside current Woodlands students. To register, or for more information, visit www.woodlandsacademy.org/robotics-engineering-101.
