In this session, we will move beyond the basics to explore how funding models, requirements, and operational goals differ across sectors. We will also examine real-world examples of hybrid models—including organizations that operate with both a social mission and a for-profit structure—to demonstrate why the lines between "doing good" and "doing business" are sometimes not as clear as you might think.

Meet Our Presenters

Barbara Miller is the President of the Barbara and Stephen Miller Foundation, a charitable foundation that serves as a safety net resource to those in need of one-time assistance when facing an unexpected financial burden that threatens their self-sufficiency.

A speech/language pathologist by training, she founded and operated Allied Health Professionals, Ltd., a leading provider of staffing services for physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and audiology, which she ran for 25 years until it was acquired by a private equity group in 2010.

She has also served on numerous non-profit boards, including as president of a faith-based organization. Currently, she is involved in various philanthropic and volunteer activities including working as a business mentor for SCORE, a division of the SBA that offers consulting services of retired executives to the business community, Executive Service Corps and Junior Achievement.

Alfia Caldwell is the founder of Reframe It, an executive coaching and consulting firm specializing in organizational, business, and leadership development. She brings more than 20 years of experience across nonprofit, insurance and financial services, and faith-based organizational leadership. Her experience includes serving as a nonprofit founder and president, agency owner, business coach, corporate trainer, minister, and teacher.

Today, Alfia advises organizations, executives, leadership teams, and entrepreneurs on navigating change, strengthening leadership, and accelerating growth. She also advises boards, founders, and executive teams on identifying and addressing hidden leadership risks, including burnout, reactive decision-making, cultural instability, and succession gaps, before they impact organizational performance.



Through her work, Alfia helps leaders reframe challenges, build stronger organizations, and create sustainable pathways for profitable growth. When she’s not working, Alfia enjoys volunteering, the performing arts, and thinking about improving her golf game; she just hasn’t gotten around to the improving part yet.
